The Verkhovna Rada supported amendments to laws on the legal status of defenders of Ukraine

On May 9, the MPs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the bill with amendments to the laws on the legal status of foreigners and persons without citizenship taking part in the protection of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. This is important for Belarusian volunteers as well.
According to the head of the inter-faction association “For Democratic Belarus” MP Oleksiy Goncharenko, the MPs adopted the bill in the first reading with 263 votes out of 401.
The document also stipulates that the defenders of Ukraine will be able to obtain immigration permits, Ukrainian citizenship on the basis of expired passports, and residence permits.
In addition, the amendments give the right to receive residence permits to family members of persons who have signed a contract to serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the State Special Transport Service and the National Guard.
