Maintaining status quo: how many conscripts will be drafted for service in the fall conscription?
About 60,000 conscripts were summoned to draft commissions.
The Ministry of Defense of Belarus reported about the start of another draft of conscripts to military formations of the Belarusian Armed Forces. We have studied the data and here are the main points.
- How many conscripts will be sent to the troops?
In total, it is planned to draft about 10 thousand people. Also, about 200 people will be sent to serve in the reserve.
- How many conscripts were summoned to draft commissions?
About 60 thousand conscripts were subject to summons to draft commissions.
- How long will the conscripts be sent to the troops?
From October 24 to November 30.
- When will soldiers who have served the prescribed period of time be transferred to the reserve?
Servicemen who have completed active service will be transferred to the reserve in October-November 2023.
As can be seen in the chart, the ratio of the number of those drafted during the fall conscription to the number of conscripts who were summoned to draft commissions has remained practically the same since 2020. In addition, the number of potential conscripts in fall is always higher, as graduates of educational institutions are drafted.
In 2023, health requirements for conscripts were significantly changed. For example, the requirements were lowered for a number of positions, which should generally increase the number of conscripts fit for military service.
The data on conscription in fall-2023 announced by the Ministry of Defense of Belarus confirms our conclusion made earlier. In order to maintain the current level of conscription, the Ministry of Defense is applying an extensive approach, in which the number of conscripts is achieved by reducing health requirements. This approach (so far) allows to maintain the level of draft at 10 thousand people per conscription.
